Is this the greatest song ever written? Quite possibly. Is this the longest version ever recorded? Almost certainly. Is my band the dreamiest ever? Most definitely.

Duke Ellington and Paul Weber created the closest thing to American "Leider" with this one. The opening verse alone is a masterstroke (as long as the song itself). If that were all they'd written, well, "dianu" as we say in the business. But then comes the song itself and what are you gonna do about it...? Try to sing it, I suppose.

Luckily, the band gave one of their most vanishing performances ever, and the tape was rolling. What's more, my sister Leah joins us on the harp for this meditation on a subject most familiar.
